Shared Religion

I pray at the altar
where our hands are plunged
into suds, fingers grazing
beneath the surface, and
the smell of your neck
fills my nose. You love
Palmolive and I love
the rings:
dripping,
taken off in haste.
Our song plays,
you sing and I dance.
Bubbles cling
to our freckled wrists.
We let the dishes pile up,
so we can share in mutual
worship—pressed
against the warm basin,
intertwined in the ritualistic
religion of domesticity.
