Writing: Poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid

• Poetry: Send 1-3 poems in a single Word document. Format your work as you wish it to appear.

• Prose (fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid): Send 1-2 pieces up to 10 pages each, double-spaced. Each piece should be submitted as its own file.

• All writing submissions should use a standard 12 pt. font (e.g. Times New Roman).

• You may submit both poetry and prose, but no more than the allowed number of pieces per genre, as above.

• All accepted writing submissions from current SAU students are eligible to receive a Sigma Tau Delta award. Awards are determined by the members of our SAU chapter, Alpha Omega Alpha. In addition to publication in Quercus, each winner will receive special recognition in the journal and payment of $20.

Artwork: Fine art, digital art, photography

• Fine art (e.g. painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, bookbinding, sculpture), digital art, photography: Submit one main image (required) and up to four detail images (optional). Provide title, medium, dimensions, and creation date.

• File types: JPG, JPEG, PNG

• High resolution files (150-300dpi)

• Individual images should not exceed 1GB file size

• You may submit up to 5 individual art pieces.

• You may submit up to 2 art collections (2-5 related pieces).

• Artwork selected for Quercus may be re-photographed by art experts on our team to better showcase your work online.

• Artwork submissions may be accompanied by an artist statement of up to 200 words (optional).

Audio/Visual: Short film, animation, original music composition, spoken word performance

• Audio: File type .mp3. Run time up to 10 minutes.

• Video: File type .mp4. Run time up to 15 minutes.

• Audio/Visual submissions may be accompanied by an artist statement or synopsis of up to 200 words (optional).​​

 

Submissions in multiple categories are welcome. Simultaneous submissions also are acceptable; let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.​

 

Do not include any identifying information in your submission files, but do prepare a short, third-person bio (approx. 50 words) for the submission form.

Submissions that do not meet the guidelines will not be considered for publication.
